Artist Dives Underwater To Knit Cozy Sweaters For Submerged Objects

World-renowned yarn bombing artist Olek has left the city streets to take on the deep seas. Instead of covering trees, streetlights, and street sculptures in knitted yarn, the Brooklyn-based artist has gone underwater to knit sweaters for submerged objects in an effort to raise awareness about the declining population of sharks.

Though some may criticize the frivolity of the work, it is in the hopes of gaining attention for this serious environmental issue that has occurred due to an increase in overfishing and pollution.

This underwater project is part of an exhibition for the Museo Subacuatico de Arte in Cancun, Mexico. See more of Olek’s work on her website.
